Griffin Luke Berend, age 21, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away on April 16, 2023, and went home to be with Jesus. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22nd, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Isaac Butterworth and Rev. Michael Morris officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Griffin was born on December 19, 2001, in Wichita Falls to his loving parents, Jay and Susan (Winstead) Berend. He grew up in Wichita Falls and was a proud member of the Pride of the Raiders Marching Band and was the manager of the soccer team. He graduated from Rider High School in 2020. Griffin was passionate about serving others and was involved in Young Life and volunteered with Capernaum. He spent a month doing Work Crew for Young Life, where he impacted countless lives.

Griffin was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was involved with the youth group. He joined his family on mission trips to Nicaragua and Arkansas and enjoyed serving at Faith Mission once a month. Griffin had a heart for others and volunteered as a unified Special Olympics partner, creating lasting memories and friendships.

Griffin was attending Tarleton State University, where he was pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. While at Tarleton, he attended 1st Baptist Church in Stephenville, where he was involved with Paradigm Ministry, served as a small group leader, and attended various mission trips over spring break. It was at Tarleton that Griffin met his girlfriend, Kaitlyn Martin, and together they enjoyed serving the church, cheering on the Texans, and making lifelong friendships.

Griffin loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends, and last summer, he was blessed with the opportunity to work at Wind River Ranch in Estes Park, Colorado, where he made many special connections and friendships.

Griffin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lanny and Mary Sue Winstead. He is survived by his parents, Jay and Susan, and his brother, Davis. Griffin's girlfriend, Kaitlyn Martin, and his grandparents, Larry and Peggy (Papa and Bebe) Berend, also survive him. Additionally, he is survived by his aunts and uncles, Landon and Ann Winstead, Ellen Winstead and Mary Kirkham, Will and Anna Berend, and Lee and Beth Berend, and cousins, Emma Claire Winstead, Carsten and Ezra Berend, and Ally and Lawson Berend.

Griffin was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His love for others, his faith, and his kind spirit will always be remembered. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Young Life, Capernaum, or First Presbyterian Church.
